And He Would Have Gotten Away With It If It Weren't For Those Meddling Kids
One of the better, if shortest at 106 pages, of the installments in the still new Hardy Boys Adventure series.Frank and Joe run into their friend Benny, a Bigfoot enthusiast who is tracking the sightings of the legendary Bayport Beast. The boys, along with Hector, agree to go on a camp out that is ostensibly practice for Benny's tour guide idea. They hit all the spots where major sightings have occurred. Joe goes because he's intrigued; the ever skeptical, science minded Frank because he likes camping. It's Frank that sees something in the woods he can't quite explain.Back in town they meet a man who is purportedly doing some scouting for a search for Bigfoot television show. In one scene Frank asks the man about what he would do if nothing showed up on the cameras the boys were going to place for him, and he asked, "Did you ever see the show?"So, they go back, alone. Hector is dropped without explanation and they avoid Benny to keep him out of the way.But everything isn't at it seems. With some okay to decent clues the reader can start piecing things together. There are actually a couple of mysteries going on, but I'm not going to add any spoilers. Two criticisms I have, one applies to the series as a whole and the other to several of the installments. First, the price is too high. I noticed they've dropped it from its $6.99 down to $5.81, but it's still too high. Second, the cover. Several books in the series have featured covers based on one of Frank's dreams. This time it's Joe who dreams up the cover. The sequence that inspired the cover didn't add anything to the story, so I suppose that's a third criticism. This is a good romp in the woods and touches on a subject any 9-12 or even 8 year old would enjoy, particularly the ending. Nothing inappropriate for the age group in this one.A good 4 & 1/2 stars.

Get this!
We love this recording. Great book, kept my 4 kids ages 4yo-13yo entertained on a family trip. There were enough voice inflections developing the characters to make it a smooth listening experience.
