You can lower or raise the current by using the App and the VShutDown Setting! LOVE IT!!!
Very awesome. Lithium batteries don't get a good charge from our truck alternators. I wanted to deliver "some current, but not too much". This Victron Orion 12/12-18 does the job nicely. You can lower the delivered current by using the app and setting the VShutDown voltage appropriately. See images. I have mine set to 12.9 Volts which is giving me 9amps to the Orion, and 7.3Amps delivered to my LiTime 230 AH. Love love love...

Great, Simple 12/12 Charger for RV Lithium Upgrade
These things aren't as "smart" as some of the other Victron stuff - for example you cannot limit its max output current, but it's simple and works great. Since it cannot be limited I went with the 12/12 18A instead of the 12/12 30A to ensure I don't blow 12V aux fuses when the batteries are low. We upgraded the batteries in our Jayco 312BHOK to LiPo4 batteries and I wanted to make sure the trailer was "adapted" instead of worrying about back feeding or charging issues. I simply disconnected the Aux Charging leg of my 7 way from the trailer, ran it to the input side of the 12/12 18A, connected the - input leg to the ground coming off the 7 Way, and then ran the +/- outputs directly to my battery bus bars with a 30 amp breaker on the positive leg.It pretty much worked out of the box with one minor adjustment needed for my 2500 CTD Tow Vehicle - I had to change the Alternator detection from "Smart Alternator" to "Standard Alternator", but that was it. It detected that it was charging lithium batteries on its own and it does isolate the camper from the tow vehicle. Doing it this way I am limited to 18A of charge current from the my truck, but that's more than enough to run my 12V fridge going down the highway. We don't really do any boondocking or dry camping so I liked this solution of being able to tow it with any truck rather than using a bigger charge controller with extra dedicated high amperage 12V plugs that would limit me to only being able to charge with my truck towing it.

Works great!!
I have many Victron components and like all the rest, This works amazing. I wanted something to go under my back seat in My Chevy Silverado to charge my Lithium battery that I use as an accessory battery and for my ICECO. This was a little hard to setup but I figured it out really quickly. It always charges my battery when I drive and works amazing. It is quiet, doesn't seem to produce noticeable heat. I loved it and it works amazing for what I needed.

Perfect for my application...
I went for the 12-12/18-amp model for a smaller system than my camper and I didn't want to stress out my alternator. Works great, like the rest of my Victron Products and the Victron Connect App makes very easy to monitor.

DC / DC charger with wrong instructions in box
I received this item today, have not tested it yet. First thing I found when I opened up the box was the paperwork inside of the box has the information for an inverter. I ordered the DC / DC Charger, not inverter. The unit and box both say charger. So the instruction manual in the box are useless. Now I need to go online for the wiring instructions.

Not smart at all. Disappointing. It does not communicate with other Victron products.
We originally needed a new solar charge controller for our RV and were amazed and elated with the ease of use and flexibility when we purchased an MPPT unit from Victron. So much so we went out and bought a Smart Battery Sense so it could better protect our batteries from overcharge in the hot Desert SW.Then we purchased a Victron SmartShunt, which was also compatible with our MPPT charge controller and a whole new world of information was available to us. We were in awe! The amount of information we were able to glean from the combination of the Smart Shunt and the MPPT charger was amazing. We purchased the temp probe for the SmartShunt and another Smart Battery Sense so we had a temp sensor on each of 3 batteries. The Smart Shunt is the preferred sensor by the operating system but we live in the desert where the temps regularly get over what you should charge a battery at so we like to know and the sensors are cheap. Then we purchased another MPPT charger and portable solar panel to augment the one on the roof of our RV and now BOTH MPPT chargers communicate with one another and optimize their output as a team, receiving communication from the smart shunt with the smart battery sense for back up and piece of mind. One of the things we learned by watching the Smart Shunt is our shore power AC/DC converter charger left a lot to be desired. In fact I was able to diagnose a loose ground on the box using the information from the Smart Shunt, it really is an amazing piece of equipment. So I set out to buy a Victron DC/DC charger with all that super cool Victron flexibility and compatibility I had been enjoying on their other products and guess what? The only thing this box has in common with the "smart MPPT" charger is the color of the box and maybe an algorithm. It does not do all the same things the MPPT charger does through the app and it does not have a VE Direct port on it. It cannot communicate with the other products and is not adjustable like their other products. It's like it's not even made by the same company. As a result it does not share information with the other chargers in your system. It doesn't even know they exist. It will not let you adjust the total output current (amps) to suit your battery manufacturers' recommendations like the MPPT charger does. It doesn't communicate with other chargers like the MPPT charger does, it doesn't accept temperature information from a Smart Shunt or a Smart Battery Sense like the MPPT charger does. You see where i am going here?Even if you get a Cerbo this thing is still dumb as a rock. It's really really difficult to understand why this almost useless piece of equipment has the Victron name on it. It has nothing in common with their other products other than the blue box it is built in.
