Matilda in the Middle: A Bunny Ballet Story Hardcover – Picture Book, January 27, 2015

My 4 year old loves this book and loves looking at all the little bunnies! The illustrations are beautiful and the storyline is so cute! Matilda has many older and younger siblings and feels unnoticed being a middle child. Her mom enrolled her into ballet and Matilda loves! When she tries to practice at home she feels that everyone is too busy to notice all her new dance moves. When the day of the big recital comes and no one in her family mentions it, she no longer feels like dancing...but when the burrow oddly becomes quiet Matilda is in for a big surprise! Even though her family is always busy, Matilda's hard work didn't go unnoticed!

We have read this multiple times a day with our 2 1/2 year old since she received it for Easter a few weeks ago. As her name is also Matilda, we are always on the look out for positive protagonists with the same name. This Matilda is a real role model, displaying courage (to take ballet class), perseverance (to continue to practice despite distractions), and heart (realizing that her family, not her ballet accomplishment, is the best part of her life). Doerrfeld's illustrations are impeccable. Each reading brings something new to notice; all of Matilda's sibling bunnies and parents are fill of detailed personality.

I can't stop looking at the beautiful illustrations in this book! Each time I do I discover something new. This is a truly unique book, perfect for middle and all children!

I picked up this book and instantly fell in love with it. When I looked at who wrote and illustrated it, I was like, "of course!" Cori has written so many of my favorite kids' books lately, she's just outstanding. I just bought Wild Baby for my 1.5 year old, and she is obsessed. My son has "Good Dog" and "The Rabbit Listened" and both are so cute. I love her illustrations in this one, the bunnies have the cutest faces! And the story is so, so sweet too. I can't wait to see what else Cori puts out!
